Hayley and Heath Williams

In 2010, my husband Heath and I became the very proud owners of Just Kids. In the early 1990’s Just Kids was my first teaching position, teaching upstairs in the now Pre – Prep room.

After varied teaching positions, including St Monica’s College, Edge Hill State School, Deputy Principal at Western Cape College in Weipa, Head of Middle School at Bentley Park College and lecturing in Education at James Cook University, I find myself back where it all began, and I couldn’t be happier.

I have a passion for understanding how little minds work (Brain research), in particular how early brain development can be linked to behaviour, learning and development.  I believe we, as educators need to ensure we are capturing every moment possible each day as we only get one chance to educate.

In 2015, I completed further studies with the University of Melbourne with a focus on the Abecedarian Approach (the work of Professor Joseph Sparling).  This approach is now implemented in the two downstairs rooms at Just Kids with some of the pre-reading strategies being implemented into both our Kindy and Pre – Prep Room.

When I’m not at work (either here at Just Kids or at our swim school, C-Me Swim), I’m spending time with my husband Heath and our twin boys Tanner and Kalani.  As a family we love to get away and go camping and fishing. I also love any chance to get to the big cities to see live theatre (and do a little shopping!!!)

The more we treat all children as though they have a right to be smarter (cognitively, physically, emotionally and socially) the more curious they become. Ignited within them is the motivation to ask questions, explore, take risks, learn and retake.
